Introducing Bonni... one of my five Brand Ambassadors for 2021.
Bonni came to me last year with the "Win a Boudoir Experience" competition. This was a competition I'd hoped to run to reach people who really needed this experience. People who had lost themselves and really deserved to feel good about themselves again.
Bonni had been edged towards doing a photoshoot with me by her mother, who was also considering a session. She'd recently had a wee girl, and was feeling less than confident in her new skin and body.
A lot of women feel this way about their bodies after having children.
You're certainly not alone with this this state of mind. I work with a lot of new mums and it's generally about the same things.
What I think a lot of mums (new and to older kids) need to realize is that those stretch marks are evidence of something truly powerful. A complete miracle. Your body, covered in stretch marks, gave birth to life. Now, with the world going into a fertility crisis and more and more couples unable to conceive or having to go through IVF multiple times, being able to give birth is truly something special.
As much as your child/ren will probably test your wits and patience for the rest of your life... you created life. And that's pretty damn incredible!
The beauty of those stretch marks depict how Selflessly she nurtured an unseen creation within herself.
This is what Bonni has to say about her experience with boudoir photography and with me...
I absolutely loved it. You always know how to make me feel comfortable and helped a lot when it came to positioning for certain photos. I loved my photos so much. I hardly could believe it was me. [You] seriously has eye for getting the perfect lighting and details ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After the session I went home feeling so much more positive about myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then once I got I photos!!!! Holy heck. I couldn't believe that was me, I actually look like that. I had this idea in my head how about I looked & how other people saw me. I was so wrong after seeing my photos. I'm more than body but hell my body has a story to tell. And [you] showed that in every single photo!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's my job as a boudoir photographer to make sure clients and models are comfortable and feel safe with me.
It's also my job to help you through the process and the session - you will never be left to figure out how to pose or what to do. I help you through every step of the way. I have a "circuit" of poses that I run through with every client, but you're more than welcome to collect poses you'd like to try or give a go... I love when clients do this as it shows me how invested and how excited they are going into the session!
I can also offer advise on wardrobe, as well as offering a studio wardrobe of flattering pieces sized 8-16.
Lingerie is an expression of ourselves. Our personalities. Our level of confidence. How we feel about colours we look good in. I offer style advice to clients with every session, but ultimately it comes down to you and what you feel comfortable and confident in ❤⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I offer advice on bodysuits vs sets, how to connect up garters and stockings (the EASY way 🤣), what colours might suit your skin tone best (if thats something you'd like some advice on).... pretty much anything you'd like to know, I will do my damned best to help with 😊⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most of the time black or red are great go tos... it's easily available and majority of first timers feel more comfortable in a sexy black number as we all wear black almost daily! As someone who wears some form of black everyday, I know it takes some adjusting to wearing colour haha
If we make self-love or body acceptance conditional, the truth is, we will never be happy with ourselves. The reality is that our bodies are constantly changing, and they will never remain exactly the same. If we base our self-worth on something as ever-changing as our bodies, we will forever be on the emotional roller coaster of body obsession and shame.
